Perhaps a simpler explanation is they don’t remember her concerts because her music is inherently forgettable. The author nearly gets there and then doesn’t seem to finish.
This felt a bit familiar to me despite being published today. Turns out it reminded me of https://samkriss.substack.com/p/taylor-swift-does-not-exist by the same author.
Oh this was today? I also really thought it was "Taylor Swift does not exist", odd that it's not. I didn't remember that article, of course, but I remember feeling the same things as with this one while reading it.
I don't like Taylor Swift's music, but I do hope this author experiences joy in something, sometime.
"I experienced joy once, it was terrible."
> They could have had Adrianne Lenker or PJ Harvey or Patti Smith or Björk.

Is Adrianne Lenker becoming popular? She showed up on my Pandora a while ago, and I’m very not cool, so I guess she must be getting some visibility (Pandora is kind of neat because you can hear artists like that, without being as miserably cool as this author).

She's the lead singer of Big Thief, who's popular and well-promoted among the type of people who like the kind of music she makes. Not quite as hyped as Boygenius/Phoebe Bridgers, but not too far below that. If you've shown interest in indie folk or indie singer-songwriter music, Big Thief is an obvious recommendation.
