Ask HN: How do you manage your paper receipts?

Am completely swamped with paper receipts. Can't find one when I need it.

I've been involved with construction projects where it can be especially costly to lose a receipt, and some parties don't have electronic receipts. Taking photos of receipts works but I often forget.

How do y'all manage your paper receipts?

If losing receipts is costing you $$$, then I'd be printing every one out, filing 'em in paper envelopes by date (one or more envelopes per week), and keeping a written summary (alphabetical by vendor?) in a spiral-bound paper notebook.

Yeah, that's a paper-based hassle. But with how human brains work, the physical ritual of doing stuff with paper is often a "stickier", and easier-to-recall-later, habit.
