Ask HN: What can we do about the deterioration of the community?

I'm sure most of you have noticed this. From random Reddit posts to nonsensical Tumblr links HN is starting to be a lot more noise then actual good hacker interesting content.

While that's to be expected when a community grows it's reaching a point where sorting through all the garbage, especially if you're using the RSS feed, is just too time consuming.

Can we at least have downvotes at less karma?
