Ask HN: What are the risks of NFC-scanning your passport on LinkedIn?
Microsoft LinkedIn is asking you to NFC-scan your passport to get a "Verified" badge (not sure what being verified does, perhaps nothing, but they sure want you to get it). They use a third-party startup called Persona to implement the NFC-scan; https://withpersona.com/solutions/persona-marketplace seems like they mainly focus on KYC, AML, fraud detection and such. What are the potential risks of uploading NFC passport data to a startup which shares data with LinkedIn? Can the holder of this NFC data then use it to impersonate me on other sites that require passport verification?
