I refuse to use GNOME because its developers give off a paternalistic vibe I find intolerable. They do not know better than I do about how I want to use my computer.
If I want to deal with a computing environment that thinks I need my hand held, that’s what Windows and macOS are for. I don’t want that sort of coddling from a GNU/Linux machine. Fortunately there’s MATE.
