Disrupting the Citrus Industry

1 points by jingus ↗ HN
It is possible to grow citrus trees in greenhouses powered by renewable energy like geo thermal, solar thermal, bio gas, biomass or even compost. Building these greenhouses across the Midwest and near population centers. Citrus farmers are already having a hell of a time with citrus greening disease and this would be perfect to put the farms in a climate the big can’t go. The green houses could be also grow other crops in between the trees like lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs. And an online farmers market place could then be built with the greenhouses providing product to sell on the app year round.
