Ask HN: Why are there so many AI software engineer companies?

The latest one I saw is called lovable.dev (I think they used to be called gptengineer) but it just looks totally the same as all the competitors so I don't really get it. There was so much hype when Devin raised, whatever a bajillion dollars, but all the products suck?

Why are VCs still pouring money into this?

It's all deja vu ... back in pre-2000 it was web stores, e.g. pets.com, then more recently it was block-chain this and that. Now it's ML/DL/AI.

The VC playbook is simple, gamble with other people's money, hoping that 1 in 20 bets pays 100x in order to pay off the 19 losers and collect their fees. With carry they just can't lose. It's either win or win BIG.

In spite of all their posturing, VCs can't accurately predict the future either.
