Very broad question.. company events are good for morale. You spend most of your days with your coworkers… it’s nice to have an opportunity to kick back and relax with them on the company’s dime. My employer is doing the party during office hours.
In my case it was on the weekend.
Parties are fine, as long as attendance is invited but not required. That way people who like them can attend, and people who do not can stay home.
everybody but the one who proposed it wants to go home...except those who have a good excuse and are not there for starters...who in their right mind thinks co-workers are a good match for having fun, partying?
If you don't like your co-workers, why are you even working there? Just for the money?

Life is too short to spend weekdays without having nice people around you.

It’s perfectly possible to think your coworkers are nice people and pleasant to be around/work with, while still feeling there are better uses of your precious time and (for many of us, limited) social energy than hanging out with them for purposes other than getting work done.
