I think I believe Pat here - but I'll bet that the 18A yield rumors come from leaks from the folks testing the flagship large area chips, which doesn't bode well for bringing back customers long term. It seems like, for now, perception is reality for Intel.
I get trying to make headlines juicier, but there was no 'firing back' in any semblance of the expression by Gelsinger.

He simply responded to someone who claimed an article was false, thanking them and saying he was proud of 18A.
