Exploring Longevity Research: What We Know (and Don't)
It’s true that much of longevity research is still based on animal models, and findings often don’t translate cleanly to humans. For example, caloric restriction is frequently studied, but results vary wildly—positive effects in rodents haven’t been consistently replicated in primates.
That said, there’s promising work happening beyond traditional methods. One recent study suggested that visceral fat might play a larger role in brain health and aging than previously thought. This connects longevity to something actionable: reducing visceral fat through diet and exercise, which has measurable short-term impacts even if the long-term effects take decades to fully study.
I’ve been following this topic through longer., a newsletter that distills longevity science. It’s been a great resource for staying updated without getting overwhelmed.
What’s your take? Are there areas of longevity research you think are closer to breaking through into something practical?
