Ask HN: Teach Programming to Kids?

With claims that AI might take over programming jobs in the near future, is it still a good idea to teach kids coding? How many parents here would want their children to learn programming? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

Give them opportunity to explore with an environment, but don’t push it on them.

That makes sense. I’m mostly curious to know if parents are actively encouraging their kids to develop programming skills.

I teach my children that code is one of many ways to solve problems, and then I supervise them while they talk to ChatGPT and other LLMs to ask it how to write code to solve the problems that they are attempting to solve.
