At least this looks like "proper zoonosis" - big obvious reservoirs of infected animals, lots of little jumps that fizzle, all the things you expect to see.

COVID was very "dog that didn't bark" by comparison, we still haven't found an animal reservoir.

Because it was lab created. That's been well established.
Yeah, there has been a steady stream of Bird Flu cases increasing globally and spreading over the last year. Based on the trend it seemed it would only be a matter of time before it finally spread to humans.

Personal anecdote: Since I've started taking 10,000 to 20,000 IU a day I haven't gotten a severe cold or flu (viral or otherwise). Only a sniffle once or twice a year.
