Ask HN: Collaborative learning apps/books with kids

2 points by philips ↗ HN
My kid (6yo) and I just completed reading.com which is an app that has the parent and child sit next to each other and learn to read via 99 lessons. It is very similar to a book called "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Lessons" which is where we started.

Regardless, this was a great bonding experience. And now that it is over my kid is requesting we continue to do something similar together.

Does anyone have any recommendations on applications or books that have a sort of side-by-side parent/child pedagogy with some linear progression? We would be open to any topic.

These are the features that made it work for us:

- Linear progression (Lesson 1, Lesson 2, etc)

- Side-by-side (not some app they play on their own)

- Compact (we might do it while bored waiting for a sibling activity so iPad or single book ideal)

Thanks!
