I agree, but mostly because I think the office of President has become too culturally powerful, and the ceremony too much like that of a monarch. I want my President to be a bureaucrat, with their election and inauguration having no more pomp and circumstance than the hiring of an office worker.
Maybe we wouldn't get narcissists like Trump and Musk in the White House if the office seemed beneath their dignity.
I think an electoral majority of Americans don’t want the federal government to be spending their tax dollars on this and are happy to see private businesses contributing instead. Perhaps other agencies (such as SEC, FCC, FAA, FDA, etc.) can operate similarly and help lower the burden on taxpayers.
