Speaking from the EU: China have local hubs in the EU so I do not pay import duty (unlike from USA). I think this is a major factor.

That would explain why search results on Amazon are now indistinguishable with those on AliExpress.

They try to do the same thing: offer all the products, let all sellers sell, without much organization. The the result looks similar makes sense.
