That's arguably not true. It was never concealed that Musk would get important roles in the government, and Trump still got a stunning amount of votes.
However this is once again just distraction.

equalizing "having an opinion" and "activism" with "broad manipulation based on personal whim" - those are the mental gymnastics I see too often these days.
One of those things requires power and the other does not. And abuse is pretty hard without power.
It's a tool to help you stay in contact with your follower if you decide to leave Twitter.
The decision is still up to you, the goal is to try to minimize the network effect which might prevent some people from leaving.
I deleted my Twitter account ages ago, so can't try it, but I'm curious how this actually works. _Does_ it work? Has anyone tried it? My impression was that the API was now fairly comprehensively crippled.
Ah, right, yeah, that makes more sense. I was thinking of something more like the old twitter->mastodon migration tools (which relied on access to the twitter API).
