it's imperative for america that we control the magnetic pole, and it remains in our continent.

So not something that will have an even remote impact on a human timescale.

I wonder how long the transit from 45N to 45S latitudes will be. My gut says the pole will move fastest at the equator (a la the zero crossing of a sine wave).

In the not too distant future humanity will see the magnetic pole at the equator. Wow.

In other ways the strongest attraction can arise from things are are not "true north" either ;)

Plus it can be a moving target too . . .
