Show HN: Folks – A Community for Product People (folkscommunity.com)

Hey HN! I've been building an open-source community platform over the past few days and would love for y'all to check it out. We are still very early, the platform has been open for 2 days and we're already on 38 people as i post this. This has been a fun challenge getting this built in a couple of days since the news broke of posts.cv shutting down.

Looks like an interesting platform Johny. Where do you imagine Folks will go in the future? What types of interactions are you hoping will happen?

I want to build a neutral space for people to share their craft, build friendships, and have a place to get feedback from like-minded people. I have no plans to monetize the platform, and if it continues growing after some time has passed i'm going to register a non-profit organization and transfer the rights to it (while still supporting it financially).

Looks great. I love the minimalist styling. My wife is a product manager / product owner, so I (wrongly, it seems) assumed that "product people" meant falling into that line of work (as that's how she and others in product tend to describe themselves.)

Other than that misunderstanding, my only other comment is perhaps a personal gripe -- the marquee scroll at the top makes it very hard for me to concentrate on anything else on the page. I was going to attribute this merely to me being challenged or ADHD in some way, but then I remembered that we deprecated the <marquee> tag in HTML and there was probably a reason for that.

Edit: Trying to register now, and I'm curious why the 'password' prompt isn't allowing Chromium to auto-generate a complex password?

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words! I've personally always associated product people with people that create something, whatever that might be. But you're right most commonly it's used for product managers. In this case i just thought it would be the best fit.

That's a great point, I'll add a toggle for the scrolling text in the settings, should be live in a little bit.

As for registration - it should allow it, with it being a standard password field. I'll do some debugging!

Thanks! Could you could check if the autocomplete for a new password works now?

I've also added a toggle on the settings page to disable the scrolling of the ribbon (with it disabled you can manually scroll it by clicking and holding on the ribbon)
