The article reads as if OP had a conclusion in mind and tried to justify it using the current narrative.
Chinese markets are competitive and cut throat on pricing in the consumer market. They have less government regulation aside from the media restrictions.
I don’t understand how this is communism vs capitalism. The current top chinese models are all released by private companies such as deepseek by a hedge fund who pivoted after government put restrictions on crypto trading.
When you have enough control over an economy that you can influence or outright control cost of labor, you can guarantee that you'll undercut the competition.
If you put a competitor out of business by undercutting their prices they will no longer compete with you.
> Russia and China industrialized within one generation. No nations ever developed faster or more, an economic miracle pointedly ignored by most western economists because communism bad, STFU.
Yeah, nope. They industrialized when the west already had. There's a massive difference between developing stuff and then deploying it and outright deploying it. Compare that, e.g., to imperial Germany vs. England and you see the difference.
All of that would be great except it's not clear what socialism and communism have to do with China today. It's in the name of the ruling party, but names are only names when they are stretched so far away from their original meaning.
And I would remove flagging from HN. I hate to see so many interesting posts flagged. Or add a "vote to unflag" button.
As I understand it, the Chinese person that funded the DeepSeek project is a millionaire with hedge fund, Marks would’ve rolled over in his grave after hearing that’s how you define communist nowadays.

Is American not a bit communist too? E.g. funded research.
