[ 3.8 ms ] story [ 40.6 ms ] thread
They've overplayed their hand and are now forced to buy people out to deliver on their objective. If they could just fire them, they would, but they can't.
I posted this on the other thread but they can only pay 25000 now, not the full severance package they are promising.

After re-reading the letter this was a very slick move.... they never promised anything more than (very obtusely) the $25k. The article's wording has been repeatedly edited and the Editors Note has changed a few times as well: "Editor's note: This story has been updated with background on the administration's memo.", "Editor's note: This story has been updated with confirmation from the Office of Personnel Management."
If I’m reading this correctly, it isn’t a severance package, exactly. The only “compensation” an employee is getting in exchange for agreeing to resign in September is the ability to continue working from home. Things are messier if agencies start placing those employees on paid administrative leave etc.
"... who don't want to return to the office." The headline leaves that out. it will be interesting to see how that plays out.

On September 2021, we went back to our pre-COVID schedule of no more than two telework days per week. I don't know of anyone who complained. The pandemic was pretty much over; so, let's get back to normal.

We got an email with the directive yesterday, saying we'd be complying within 30 days. Idon't know that we'll lose anyone over one to two days per week. i do know people in other agencies who have not been back to the office and it will be interesting to see what they do.

Musk applying the Twitter strategy to the Federal Government. Seeing how this will play out will be very interesting.

https://www.opm.gov/fork Here's the actual letter. It's not a buyout, it's basically "you can continue teleworking as long as you agree to resign on September 30th, otherwise you have to attend work in person". Worse deal IMO.

Trump's buyout offer to US government workers is not for government efficiency reasons it's for some far more sinister(Project 2025) reasons to inject that ideology into all levels of the US bureaucracy. It's an ideological purge pure and simple to inject Project 2025 ideologues at all the levels of the US Government Bureaucracy! This is a pure power grab with Implications for everyone in the US and with implications that will far outlive Trump's time in office!
I was just thinking about how many Chesterton's fences Trump is breaking right now.
