An open Twitter-like ecosystem (scripting.com)

I see these articles all the time, can someone tell my why people are always intent on reinventing the wheel rather that using statusnet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StatusNet)?

Sorry, but no explanation at all what/how you trying to do. Sounds like some sort of random brain dump for me.
