It's not that it's offtopic by politicness or whatever, it's that it's a followup detail of a story that's already had a couple of pretty big discussions. So a way to think about it is 'is this new bit of info going to produce a meaningfully different/interesting discussion compared to the one we just had'. It's not hard to see how many people might conclude 'no'.
