Open-CUAK: "OpenAI Operator" Now Goes Open Source

2 points by yulei_s ↗ HN
Hey everyone, my team and I have been working on automation agents for a while—long before OpenAI launched Operator. Our goal? To build something that just works—open, accessible, and fully in your control.

Today, we’re excited (and a little nervous!) to open-source Open-CUAK, a free and open alternative to the OpenAI Operator experience. But it’s more than that. Open-CUAK is a platform to run, train, and scale automation agents at massive scale (think 100+ instances running simultaneously). And the best part? It runs fully locally.

What you can do with Open-CUAK:

1. Run Operator-like automation workflows locally, with full privacy

2. Use vision-based AI to automate tasks, just like a human

3. Deploy and manage hundreds of agents in parallel

4. Experiment with different models, frontier or open-source (Claude, Gemini, QwenVL, etc.)

5. Check it out & give us a on GitHub → https://github.com/Aident-AI/open-cuak

Read our launch blog → https://aident.ai/blog/openai-operator-open-source-alternative

This project means a lot to us, and we’d love for you to try it, break it, improve it, and help us shape its future.

Would love to hear your thoughts! Let’s build something awesome together. Let’s go CUAKs!
