Ask HN: If you are in your 40s or 50s, where would you move?

Legacy brand countries (UK, USA, Canada, Australia) do not seem like a good option these days. If you are in your 40s or 50s, have no money to invest but have software skills (not FAANG level, but good), what would be a decent place to move, from Asia? Not looking to become rich, just want to have a peaceful/quiet life and be left alone

I chose China. Want to settle in Shenzhen or a similar place.
I moved to the English countryside recently (early 50s). Regardless of what the media finds to freak out about, it's lovely and quiet and the people are nice.
Move where you would like to retire to while you still have the time and resources to pay things off. Can’t carry large debts into retirement if you have a “typical” amount of resources.
Northern italy.
Where did you move from? How was the immigration process like? How is the standard of living like?
Edinburgh.

Turin.

Valencia.

Vienna.

But a lot of that depends on factors like budget and language skills, and of course, where your next of kin live, assuming you want to be close to them.

Nowhere on earth is safe at the moment (well, Australia and New Zealand have no immediate neighbours to threaten them with annexation)
