I built SpendScan to answer a simple question: where does my grocery budget go? While working on receipt analysis, I discovered there was no good tool that could tell you the environmental impact of your grocery purchases at the item level.

SpendScan analyses your grocery receipts to provide both financial and environmental insights. It uses standardised emissions data to calculate the carbon footprint of your food choices. The system analyses factors including food type, seasonality, local vs. imported status, and processing levels to estimate environmental impact.

The tool helps users understand: - Item-level spending patterns - Carbon footprint of food choices - Seasonal vs. out-of-season purchasing - Local vs. imported food impact - Price trends over time

All receipt uploads are free to try, and creating an account to track spending over time is free. The analysis works with any supermarket receipt, including digital receipts from store apps. I'm sharing this here because I believe the HN community might find the environmental impact analysis particularly interesting, and I'd appreciate feedback on both the approach and implementation.
