I was surprised that no mention was made of competing service ID.me. Accessing SSA account, for example, can be done either with login.gov or ID.me.
I had to create ID.me account for my state DMV (Real ID), and also use it for IRS and SSA account login. So if login.gov goes away, it wouldn't affect or presumably millions of others.
