I would not put it past Russia to discreetly pay a crew $10mm to "accidentally" take out a ship vital to US force projection. High ROI, on their part.
Because weakening the USA is (and will remain so, regardless of any "peace" in Ukraine) one of their primary strategic goals, and they know Trump won't meaningfully punish them for something like this?
Surely you jest?!? Its about 10 days since the Orange One rug-pulled NATO - you think MI6 has had time to plan and auth a false-flag op on a US-flagged ship - never mind decide it would be a profitable course of action? Not a chance. A Russian operation OTOH? Quite possibly - anchors get dragged for 60 miles and snagged on undersea cables, people fall out of windows or are poisoned with nerve agents while living quiet lives in foreign countries...
