The Barnes Foundation is one of my favorite museums in the country. There isn’t anything else quite like it.
Is it still going? I watched "The Art of the Steal" documentary and thought it shut down.
I visited the Barnes before it moved from its original location. It is a truly stunning collection of art. There was a very public fight over the relocation of the museum, which fortunately was resolved and the collection preserved. Of all the great works of art Barnes collected, my favorite is "The Joy of Life" by Henri Matisse https://artincontext.org/the-joy-of-life-by-henri-matisse/
I'm a Philly resident and I came to this comment thread to write this exact post! The Joy of Life is my favorite painting and witnessing it in person, then turning around and seeing The Dance II [0] fresco, blows my mind every time. If you're ever in Philadelphia, please go see the Barnes, it's THE BEST.

Disgusting reminder of the failures of nonprofit stewardship and government overreach. That foundation should never have been in peril, and the blatant overreach "for the public good" of a citizen's private property is terrifying.
