Did they disable the comment thread visibility for anon/not-logged-in users? I hope they deleted the comments instead of only hiding them from the public eye.
Unfortunately I have just cancelled my subscription, which has terminated my membership immediately. I don't want to reread the atrocious waste (or expose them to others) anyway.
Because the article isn't about the identity of Asahi Lina. That may or may not be an interesting article (I'm deliberately being neutral so as not to spark off-topic discussion), but it isn't the topic of this article.
The silent majority appreciate each of you, Asahi Lina, Alyssa Rosenzweig, and Hector Martin. You don’t hear from them because it’s not in their nature, for better or worse.
Your generosity and hard work have made possible things that previously seemed impossible. Wonderful things exist because you worked to make them. Thank you.
Asahi Lina is an alternate “vtuber” personality of Hector Martin. So it makes sense his alternate personality would also quit.
Rather than rehash it yet again, you can do an HN comment search for “asahi lina“ and get the facts.
TL;DR: Hector has goofed a few times and revealed himself on livestreams. I was super interested in this work.
I watched a couple of them myself and can confirm at least 2 of these incidents, including one where his vtuber video overlay failed and revealed himself.
Anyway, don’t want people to be confused with what’s going on. He’s got problems, like us all, and I hope he finds peace.
Edit: Alyssa Rosenzweig is a real person and not one of Hector’s identities. And quite brilliant.
Unless he provides proof of DMs, we can discard his claims outright. Nothing "unsafe" occurred on the LKML. Having a thread about you on a gossip website isn't a threat to your safety.

Also, as always, the article is below HN's level...
Correct. It's notoriously bad.

edit: yes you do need a phoronix premium or have been a forum member for 3+ years to view the thread.
I find nothing offensive in the comments I do not read, BTW.

From Asahi Lina's creator:

> It's the worst kept secret in history that I had to keep alive, I have no interest in keeping it alive anymore.
> I mean, Lina started as an april fools joke on Marcan's youtube channel
https://archive.is/OzKeJ
> So yes, Marcan is Asahi Lina, Asahi Lina is Marcan. It's not a secret, it never really was.
> Only really became one when Marcan found out he liked vtubing.
And if you don't like Twitter, Luna is also saying it on Bluesky:

> My abuser (asahi lina/marcan) is a Linux kernel contributor.

Source?
It's just another aspect of streaming culture at this point.
