Hard to follow this argument, not sure which companies in Europe "won't have to play by the same rules"...

Either way, if Apple the product-company requires changes in iOS to realize a new feature in an accessory product, the changes in iOS will have to be opened to accessory-competitors as well.

Apple will de-facto not be allowed to modify the playing field of the accessory ecosystem in favor of its own products, and restrict others from adapting to it.

They would still be first-to-market with such new features, because they had a head-start in implementing and launching them with their accessory, Apple would just be facing competitors catching up over time like in every other balanced market.

The Consumer wins.
