This is essentially the job of a senior software engineer.

I would argue that it is essentially the job of any software engineer! I’m truly flabbergasted by his statement.

Not quite. That is the expected baseline job function of any typical software engineer and not a "coder".

“I think you should learn…” then describes all of the things that programming entails.

I think it’s a real problem that the thought leadership in education is pretty terrible. On the one hand you have vague notions about western values and anti-woke, then you have don’t learn to code, we have “focus on STEM” while the White House defunds science. We need much clearer thought leadership in how to educate the next generation of workers.
