I was working with a developer yesterday to resolve an issue with a JavaScript microfrontend configuration that they had worked with AI to develop. Needless to say it didn't work, but the AI thought it should and just kept ineffectually refactoring the same code. They asked me to take a look and we discovered that the remote was not exporting a module. About the most basic thing if you write ESM style JavaScript but the AI didn't notice. Why? Because the AI is a pattern matcher and is incapable of actually understanding what it's doing. What it had assisted in writing was based on articles that also required the reader to understand basic concepts. The AI had just created some modules based on matching a pattern from the host part of the application that was basically nonsense and the developer had missed it because there were no syntax or linting errors. This has been about 70% of my experience with AI. If I ran a car company and 70% of my cars wouldn't start, I would be out of business. This is not capitalism, it's not science, it's like venturtainment at this point. Why are we giving this slop so much press?
