Hi HN! I’ve spent the last few months experimenting with creating animated (and interactive) QR codes. Animated QR codes are visually compelling but haven’t gone mainstream, mainly because complex designs often sacrifice reliable scanning.

To fix this, I built software providing precise, pixel-level control over QR code animations. It allows custom SVG styling for individual QR elements (like the “on” pixels), ensures consistent branding across multiple URLs, and carefully manages animation timing.

After lots of refinement, these animated QR codes reliably scan—even with intricate visual effects or dynamic transitions.

I’d love your thoughts: • Any animation styles or visual experiments you’d like to see? • Practical use cases you can imagine? • Any technical suggestions or improvements?

Appreciate your feedback—thanks!

Doesn't scan on Android 15 using with Camera, Lens, or Firefox apps.

Works OK with Camera app on an iPad Mini with iPadOS 18. Firefox hesitates. iPad straight on (camera at a harder angle) it doesn't want to work, if I make the camera straight on it works.
