Tell HN: Check your Gmail spam folder

5 points by jedberg ↗ HN
Not sure if it's just me or everyone, but I just discovered that gmail has been marking almost all of my email as spam for at least a month.

I found out because a friend asked if I got her email and I found it in spam, along with a bunch of other items that were not only not spam but should have been marked as high priority.

I was kind of wondering why my email volume when down so much...

thx for warning. With me, its ok. No false-flagging by big GOOG. Only flagged, what does deserve flagging.

But, with my girl and with her outlook.com account created last November (2024) - without exception - every new email / unknown sender is pushed to spam folder. Unless the sender is manually marked as "no spam". We don't really know why..

- Tell me Why??? Ain't nothing 'bout spam filters

- Tell me Why??? Ain't nothing 'bout missed emails

- Tell me Why? I never thought, I'll have to care. That's just a nooo-gooo.

Not me. I've got about two dozen emails in my spam folder, and they're all spam.

(I'm pretty sure that Google is just straight-out disposing of a lot of obvious spam. My spam folder used to be in the thousands, and there was zero realistic chance of finding anything mis-classified. I do occasionally discover things that are not technically spam, merely not interesting, and I politely mark them and unsubscribe.)
