Are Smartwatch Companies Agreeing on Features?

It turns out that only high-end smartwatches come with the fall detection feature. A thing that can be a lifesaver for our aging parents.

How comes that cheap Smartwatches can detect activities like running, cycling, swimming... but cannot detect a parent falling?

Are smartwatch brands truly competing against each other, or just holding back features to push high-end sales?
