Elections may continue, but the results may be prescribed. It doesn't has to be as cartoonish as in North Korea or China, where only one party is allowed. The Russian model is more likely - competing parties are allowed, but only if they are losing competing parties.

I think I know very well what you are talking about. I come from a culture where a lot of men, scholars, used to write a lot of books, one of their books could be in 10 volumes or something, and this is just one book. And they know poetry very well. And they know how to fight well with swords, ride and control the horse at the same time, and maybe carry a shield too. Their debate skills were very high because their knowledge is engraved in their mind. If I have an idea about a full self, it is them. And the lovely modernity is making us 1% of that. Anyone who can't see that is a fool.
Btw, the smart people are the ones who deny these things are even possible. We call those “the incredulous.” Power is coveted and curated by the single minded and persistent wills.
