Ask HN: Did news.Y Combinator.com start blocking VPNs more aggressively?

For the past few days, I've consistently encountered a blank page with a "Sorry" message when accessing Hacker News through most exit nodes of my (reputable) VPN provider.

Has there been a recent change in how HN handles VPN traffic, or have I simply been fortunate until now to not encounter this issue?

The quality of HN has really improved over the past few days to be sure.

Were vpn users causing troubles requiring more filtering?
