This article seems to be linkbait. At any rate, users that don't want to migrate to Windows 8 will stay on Windows 7, not migrate to Linux Mint with Xfce.
Eh. I can buy people being willing to sample Linux given outside influences like Steam. There just has to be a good PR push and easy enough means packaged for them to do so.
You forget the impact of computer viruses on Windows migrations. In 1997, I had some friends with Windows 3.11 boxes, absolutely loaded with games and other software. They loved Windows 3.11, but were preparing to migrate to Windows 97 because all the "Anti-virus" vendors no longer supported Windows 3.11, and the Windows 3.11 malware was eating them alive.
I think the upthread comment was referencing malware in general. You're right that "viruses" are no longer a major threat (most are worms or trojans) but malware in general is still a huge issue, and Windows is the biggest target.
Every major UI change has a backlash. Many corporations and businesses are still on XP because the change for Vista/7 was too great and required too much new hardware for too little benefit.
"In Light of Windows 8 Backlash, Linux is Poised to Win the OS Race" - this is a joke right ?
99.9% of the world's population have never even heard of Linux outside of the tech industry. It's either Microsoft or Apple or you're a technology geek who likes other stuff. Clearly, this article was written while on the green stuff.
My favourite quote - some are saying Linux may have a great opportunity to steal a significant share of the market away from Microsoft - as it links to ReviewLinux - The Source for Linux Reviews.
Thats like linking to a Microsoft Article which says "Windows 8 set to capture 99.999% of the market and destory apple" says the Head of Communication for Microsoft at Microsoft Headquarters while speaking about Microsofts new operating system Windows 8" lol. Slap a #fail on that one.
HAH, crazy. I remember fondly over the last 15 years the 15 times that Linux was about to take over the desktop. It's more likely WebOS is going to win any race with Windows.
