Ask HN: Stuck in the 10x1y Trap

I'm not good enough to stick around and actually see my bad code come back to bite me. I want out but I don't know how. I leave behind a trail of broken hopes and dreams. I am good enough to get a gig, not good enough to keep it. Anyone been in this position and successfully overcome it?

Ten years of the "same" experience each year, versus having a decade of varied experience, in breadth and/or depth.
