By now I'm wondering whether this feature constantly keeps getting developed by multiple companies because of a user-first motivation (an actual NEED by the user), or an engineering-first motivation ("we build a big index, apply some model on top, add a search-bar, BAM! AI!")

I've never had a need for a context-less search where I type "Netflix" and it shows me the App on my phone, all Emails from Netflix, all chats where I mentioned it, all bookmarks of it, just for me to work through all that noise manually again...

It would indeed be interesting to see a vendor making use of all the ML-capabilities in modern SoC's and develop an OS with a device-centric AI experience instead of a cloud-centric one.

Not holding my breath here though...
