Federal Shutdown Means More NIH Grants Won't Be Reviewed this cycle, more lost time, more research coming to a halt, more scientists leaving to other nations. This is what a failing superpower looks like.

The Dem argument would be that NIH Grants are not particularly reliable under a funded Trump administration, as the administration seems to ignore the will of Congress on a whim, cancel grants, etc with little legal recourse.

(Or worse, grants are doled out to cronies)

If anyone thought China's gain in the last 20 years was rapid, they have no clue what it would look like by 2028 - thanks to a self-inflicted damage by Republicans.
I encouraged folks with strong English skills to apply to Canadian and UK unis in 2016 and got called hysterical and an extremist.

There's a big sunk cost in learning a language, but Canada and the UK have some fine unis. (No offense to Edinburgh but you're no Oxbridge yet -- I'd bet that Scotland declares independence and joins back with the EU at some point, the main reason independence failed last vote is a lot of the things they wanted they got via being in the EU.)
