Author here. We analyzed 802K merged PRs from GitHub Archive to see how code review practices changed from 2024 to 2025. The headline stat got worse—up from 83% in 2024.
Other findings: self-merge rates hit 71%, bot PRs collapsed from 62% (2022 peak) to 15.5%, and first-time contributors now wait 38% longer vs 53% last year.
We also looked at how OpenAI Codex, Gemini CLI, and Claude Code ship compared to the benchmarks. Happy to answer questions about methodology.
