With yesterday's release of the Codex App, OpenAI appears to be degrading their flagship models behind the scenes.

Ask "GPT 5.2 High" (non-Codex model) what its knowledge cutoff is.

Before: August, 2025

Today: June, 2024

Does this mean the "5.2 High Model" is actually an older model? Code quality-wise, subjectively, it sure feels like it.

Why do you feel an older cut off degrades the model? Perhaps it improves it as the model has limited training on AI garbage.

Update:

Same model? Then why is the cutoff date on 5.2 that of Codex, i.e. 2024?
