Ask HN: Is an extended validation (EV) SSL cert worth it?

Our site's SSL is fine - it's a cert of the garden variety that does the basics. I've been reading a bit more about the extended validation certificates and wondering: are they worth the extra cash for a retail commerce site? I'd love to hear from people with experience in working with sites that have the EV certs to see whether you noticed a conversion rate difference.
