I dug into the OpenClaw repo and found the engine underneath is actually Pi, a minimal agent by Mario Zechner. Unlike my experience with Claude Code, where context often fills up quickly with setup overhead, Pi runs on just four tools and a tiny system prompt. It gets the same work done with a fraction of the token usage, suggesting a lot of the harness bloat in other tools might not be necessary.
