This article seems to miss Dawkins' point, which is not to assert that Claude is conscious -- he clearly states that he does not actually know. He seeks to wonder what brought about the evolution of consciousness in the first place.
Opening with a misuse of simulacra in your philosophical treatise on a topic notorious for degenerating into semantic arguments is not a great hook, I have to say.
