Ask HN: If developers are in such high demand, why aren't development interns?

Locating and securing employment last summer was a long and laborious tribulation. It's nearing the time to begin my search for this summer. If the generally consensus is that the market is undersupplied with development labor, why is finding internships so prodigiously difficult for developers?

There are two kinds of interns: good ones and bad ones.

It sucks that the good ones will be gone after four months.

It sucks that the bad ones will be around for four months.

Great way to put it, never thought of it like that.
Where are you looking for internships? I know for a fact that the traditional big companies (Google, Facebook, Oracle, etc etc etc) in the Bay Area are throwing crazy money and benefits at interns.

You don't even have to be in the Bay Area. Up north, Microsoft. You can go abroad - in the UK Microsoft, Oracle, Google and Facebook are doing similar fantastic deals.

You can grab an internship at the moment paying over $6,000 a month, plus benefits.
