Ask HN: Has Multi-AZ (AWS or others) helped you stay up during downtime?

I've been setting up Multi-AZ for companies throughout my life. There were a handful of times that us-east-1 went down and I never remember Multi-AZ saving us from those downtimes.

Has it ever worked for any of you?
