Where'd Codex Go?

I just clicked the "Update" button in the Mac Codex app, and the app quit and deleted itself. I went to download it from the download page, and it downloads a copy of the ChatGTP app.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this OpenAI unifying things?

This is expected behavior; the Codex app has been rebranded as the ChatGPT app.
Same here. But where is Codex in ChatGPT app? I can only use codex as part of VS code extension. I talking about desktop.
I was having this issue and after installing and installing ChatGPT desktop, I finally got the ChatGpt Work, that has CODEX merged to it. So, if you still didn't get it right, try uninstall and install again and again and maybe again hehe.
Well this is fun, all of my chats are gone and I can't seem to get them back?
An update that deletes the app and replaces it with ChatGPT sounds like a forced migration—check if OpenAI announced Codex is being sunset.
The web page shows codex is embedded in chatgpt but my chatgpt shows differently
Solution! Like everyone else, I updated Codex, it deleted itself and the download appeared to be the installer for the old ChatGPT. However... Quit (the old) ChatGPT, then install from this new installer. Then ChatGPT Codex opens, WITH all your conversations from the old Codex... as well as your conversations with the old ChatGPT (under the "Chat" option).
I've also updated it.

The first upgrade popup/highlight was a notification that "Codex is now the chatgpt app" and even gave me a checkbox to keep the old Codex icon.

It was a smooth upgrade so I'm guessing this was just a case of "next-next-next" without paying any attention to what was happening.
