Show HN: Flag Buddy, a learning game for kids (who can't read yet) (labs.davidbauer.ch)
Ever since the World Cup had started, our five-year-old has been completely obsessed with country flags. So I built him a small app to practice.
The first version was a 5-minute hack with Claude on my phone. Then came his feature requests (“I want Lamine Yamal to congratulate me when I get it right!”) — that paired well with my fascination for building browser games. And I realised that there’s an interesting UX challenge here: How do you design an interface for someone who can’t read yet?
So the one-off turned into a real game, which I’m now happy to share with others, beyond my initial target audience of one.

[ 7.9 ms ] story [ 14.5 ms ] threadInitially I didn't notice that it was possible to enable the automatic voice. Perhaps instead of a checkbox it's better to have two buttons in the first screen: "Start" and "Start with voice".
(Anyway, the checkbox is better if the kid is going to play it multiple times.)
